22nd International Cast Iron Art Symposium

We invite artists who are professionals in their field, are interested in sculpture processes and technologies, and are able to realize their ideas independently, to apply for creative work at SERDES residency in Aizpute, Latvia from July 27 to August 9!

 

During the residency, artists will have the opportunity for practical exploration of cast iron material, mold preparation, and sculpture casting. The artist must be ready to participate in the entire process, from mold making and iron breaking to sculpture casting.

 

The entire iron casting process will take place by the Tebra riverside and will be open to the general public.

 

Available technologies and materials: Testing different sand molds (max. sculpture weight 30 kg) / Boiled linseed oil - sand molds / Cement - sand molds / Green sand molds / Experimental reaction molds.

 

Residents will be hosted at the SERDE residency center, where artist will share double room and shares bathrooms and a kitchen with other residents. The residency center is located in a historic building complex in the old town of Aizpute, Latvia, offering a quiet yet lively small-town atmosphere.

 

We can provide selected artists with: accommodation at SERDE, access to our workshops and tools, consultations and advice, materials. We can not cover your fees and travel costs, but will provide selected candidates with a letter of invitation for additional funds or travel grant seeking.
